Rainy Season Dog Care: 3 Things to Watch
Rainy Days, Watch Out: 3 Health Problems Dogs Often Face in the Rainy Season
Rainy season brings more than a few sniffles. Damp fur, puddles and cooler air can quietly set off a chain of health issues that are easy to miss until they become a bigger problem.
Here are the three we see most often, the signs to look out for, and simple things you can do at home every day.
1. Skin Irritation and Fungal Build-Up

Damp fur that never fully dries traps moisture against the skin, where yeast and bacteria thrive, especially in long-haired and thick-coated dogs. Watch for frequent scratching, excessive licking, red skin or a musty smell. To help, dry them fully after rain (paws, belly and ears especially), change damp bedding, and brush regularly.
2. Upset Tummy and Irregular Digestion

Puddles and wet soil collect germs, and dogs who sniff the ground or drink from puddles pick them up easily. Watch for loose stools, going more often than usual, or loss of appetite. To help, keep them away from puddles, wipe paws and muzzle after walks, change their water daily, and store kibble in an airtight container.
3. Stiffer Joints and Sore Muscles

Cold air and low pressure strain the joints, especially in senior and large-breed dogs, and wet floors add the risk of slips. Watch for limping, slowness getting up, avoiding stairs or jumps, or less interest in play. To help, keep their bed warm and off cold floors, add non-slip mats, and switch to shorter, more frequent walks.
